I thought I’d re-start this whole thing with a couple of brief recaps from the last few years. We’ve had a few really cool trips, totally worth sharing!
Picking up where we left off in 2009, we did three weekend trips
to Moose River Wild Forest in June. This
place was recommended to us by Ken’s brother, and it did not disappoint! It is a very large primitive area, with dirt
roads in varying condition throughout.
Each campsite has a clearing, a picnic table, a fire pit and an outhouse.
There is no running water except whatever
occurs naturally, so you need to bring plenty of your own, or a way to collect,
treat, and store water from the streams.
There is surprisingly quite a lot of traffic for being such a primitive
place. It is beautiful, and many
hunters, kayakers, hikers, canoeists and bicyclists enjoy time there. There is an annual bicycle race called the
Black Fly Challenge with part of the route going through Moose River Wild
Forest, and there are plenty of big hills and rough roads to make it
challenging.

The coolest thing I saw was a mink, and managed to get a couple pictures, one of which actually came out well.
Adam & Jacqui left the night before we did, and after they left it rained on us... just like it had done all year! When Ken went to return the rental canoe in the morning, he saw an otter swimming over by the beach area. Then we packed up our wet gear and headed home. Once again, we had to open up our tents & tarps back home and let them dry in the sun. Still a great trip, though.
